Don Corleone Marketing: Make An Offer They Can’t Refuse
July 3, 2014
Vito Corleone, The Godfather of movie fame, was a man who got things done. His methods certainly brought their own share of problems, but decisiveness and taking action weren’t an issue.
One of Vito’s famous lines was “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Seemed to work in the mob world. And it’s not a bad idea to consider with online marketing.
The story goes that in his role as Godfather to singer Johnny Fontane, an offer was made in which a contract to further Johnny’s career would be signed by a band leader. The offer was that either the signature or the band leader’s brains would end up on the contract.
The contract was signed. It was an offer he couldn’t refuse.
This is fiction, and it’s extreme. And wow, does it get your attention.
Your Irresistible Value Proposition
In the competitive world of online business marketing, it’s not enough to just be out there. A website that fails to communicate value and capture attention will garner mediocre results.
What you need to consider is your offer they can’t refuse. Not just a unique value proposition, and irresistible one.
One of the bigger hurdles you have to get over on the internet is getting people’s attention. When you get someone to your website, you have to answer the question What’s in it for me?, and you have to do it emphatically. Make them an offer they can’t refuse and your conversions will jump.
Keep That Offer Coming
Of course, your offer they can’t refuse does not come with a mafia thug holding a gun to someone’s head. Even the best business offers won’t get everybody the first time.
But your irresistible value proposition can have more legs than just one visit to your website. Use remarketing technology to keep your offer in front of people as they venture back out into the online world.
An irresistible offer that persists. That’s what it takes to win with online marketing.
