Should Your Business be on TikTok?

Post By Robyn Rivera | Social Media Management

TikTok is the next big social media platform.

Social media management has become a must-have digital marketing channel for every small business these days. But, there’s more to social media than the big three platforms — Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

TikTok is the newest social media platform to grace us with its presence, and it’s one many businesses have overlooked. Here are a few reasons why many businesses shouldn’t overlook TikTok.

6 Reasons Your Business Should be on TikTok

#1. You’ll have a huge audience.

TikTok has rapidly become the go-to platform for younger generations, particularly 18 – 24 year-olds, but over the past year, its audience has expanded. Now, many older people have started using it, as well.

Today, TikTok has more than 1.5 billion users around the world — and the vast majority are active monthly on the platform. It’s also become one of the most heavily downloaded apps available.

Although its user base has expanded, it’s still a must-have platform to reach younger generations. If your target demographic contains people 34 or younger, more and more, TikTok is where you’ll find them.

#2. It’s a powerhouse for engagement.

Every business wants engagement on social media, and that’s true no matter what platform you’re marketing on. But, with most social media platforms, like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, the amount of engagement you get is directly related to how many followers you have.

TikTok allows you to bypass the traditional steps to building engagement. It’s a unique platform that allows you to get a lot more engagement with a lot less work.

With TikTok, you don’t have to have a ton of followers for your content to go viral. In fact, you don’t have to have any followers! Even brand new accounts can see lots of engagement because, on TikTok, it’s not about the number of followers you have but the quality of your content.

What’s more is that most TikTok users are logging on multiple times every single day. That gives you plenty of opportunities to get more engagement for your content.

#3. There’s not a lot of competition yet.

It’s no secret that the competition on the biggest social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, is fierce. Businesses have been using these platforms to build their brands and connect with their customers for years.

But, since TikTok is a relatively new platform, far fewer businesses are taking advantage of it. There’s also a big misconception among businesses as to what TikTok is and who is using it, which has kept the competition to a minimum.

TikTok’s advertising platform is also fairly new, and many businesses aren’t even aware that advertising is possible on the platform. With less competition and less noise, your ads will stand out a lot more.

#4. TikTok content captures your audience.

Not only is there less competition for you to contend with on TikTok since it’s newer and not many businesses are using it, but there’s also less competition to contend with in the TikTok user’s feed.

On most social media platforms, there’s a lot going on in a user’s feed, which means that there are a lot of things to distract your followers from your content. But, on TikTok, the way content is presented gives businesses a huge advantage.

Content on TikTok is presented in a full-screen format. That reduces the likelihood of getting “partial impressions” and limits anything that may distract followers from fully taking in your content.

Even if it’s just for a second, you get the full attention of viewers on TikTok. That means that all you have to do is figure out how to keep people watching.

#5. Take advantage of user-generated content.

In this day and age, authenticity in marketing is huge, especially if you’re targeting millennials. That’s because a whopping 90 percent of millennials say that authenticity is important to them when determining which brands they want to support.

Achieving that kind of authenticity on your own can be difficult to do convincingly, and that may be one of the many reasons why user-generated content has become such a powerful thing.

And, if there’s one thing that TikTok is great for, it’s user-generated content

Creating your own content on TIkTok is necessary, but if you really want to make an impression, sharing content generated by your users is the way to go.

And, because TikTok has the advantage of being a new, completely unique platform, far fewer people are worried about being inundated with fake news on TikTok. That means that authenticity is easier to achieve on TikTok, even with content you create yourself.

#6. Take advantage of nano-influencing.

Generation Z (the generation that succeeds millennials) is the anti-marketing generation. Most use ad-blockers on their browsers, and many of them no longer trust traditional celebrity influencers.

Generation Z is still willing to connect with businesses on social media and engage with their content, but only with businesses that are able to operate on their level. Many businesses have found success connecting with younger generations on TikTok using nano-influencers.

TikTok is a powerful platform for building smaller, more niche communities, and the nano-influencers that rise up in these communities have the advantage of being more connected to their followers. That connection makes their ability to actually influence that much stronger.

Although there are many reasons to market your business on TikTok, it’s not a platform that caters to every industry. As with any social media platform, before you start investing your time and money into it, make sure that your customers are there and that its content fits your brand and works with your industry.
