You should always, indubitably, without question, unequivocally, absolutely, with 100% certainty have your contact information visible on every page of your website.
If you are a local business looking to generate phone calls, it should be impossible for a visitor to miss your phone number. If you’re looking to drive foot traffic to your location, it should be impossible for visitors to miss your address.
Here’s an inexplicable example that shows how not to do it. This restaurant website has no embedded map of their location and this is the content of their Contact Us page in its entirety:
Consider the potential diner visiting this website. What are the chances that I’m going to want to send a contact form to them? Why would I? Where is their phone number? Where is the restaurant – how to I get there? Hello?
Or take this landscaper website. They have the common delusion that causes them to look at their design like it was a piece of art to hang on the wall and their content like it was a sonnet written for a long lost lover.
This sounds almost as romantic as Lionel Richie…the outdoors, our palette…inspired by nature…deeply rooted in the art of the well made.
Hello? Can you guys dig up my dead shrubs and plant a new one with a few cool rocks around it? I might call to say the magic words…if I could find your phone number!
This is not a well-designed landing page.
Compare it to this:
Phone number, address, and contact form, 1,2,3. Right on the homepage, above the fold. You want to contact or visit this gym? You’ll know what to do in .5 seconds.
Not surprisingly, this makes all the difference with conversions.
We had a new client come to us with an outdated website that had no contact information anywhere except on their “contact us” page which wasn’t even featured in their main navigation.
They wondered why their analytics showed they got almost no conversions.
We did two things:
First, we designed their site so their contact info was always visible on each page of their site, with strong calls to action to call to set an appointment.
We set up call tracking so their phone calls would be counted as a conversion metric.
Talk about your optimization. Their conversion rates literally exploded:
In the world of love songs and aspiring romance, it can pay to be subtle. The abstract language of poetry evokes passion, a fleeting glimpse tantalizes love’s flames.
But when it comes to a business website that generates leads, don’t play hard to get.
When people call you, they’re hot leads. Be ready to say hello.
