Case Study: Weight Loss Supplement Gains With Positive Reviews
February 28, 2018
Weight loss supplements live and die by reputation. This business is seeing big gains in reputation – and sales – as a result of their work with the Marketing 360® reputation management team.
If there is one type of product that doesn’t just benefit from – but literally must have – online reviews, it’s weight loss supplements.
This is an industry replete with claims, boasts, and promises, many of which are dubious. Yet people desperate to lose weight and live healthy want to believe what they hear, even when they know they can take little of what an advertisement says at face-value.
The truth is that consumers today are more skeptical of ads in general, so a product known for making exaggerated claims needs a way to back up what it says.
As this weight loss solution now knows, the way to do that is with reputation management.
Confronting the Doubt
The folks at PS1000 made a strategic decision. Knowing the level of skepticism created by businesses in their own industry, they decided to focus on directly confronting the doubt they knew potential clients would have.
This started with two important elements of their website content. First, they went for the tried and true. Just take risk off the table for new customers. A 180 day, money-back satisfaction guarantee.
Next, they knew what content to feature: testimonials. They had dozens of success stories from customers, and these had to be featured heavily in the website content.
So their website starts, right on the homepage above the fold, with a testimonial video.
Next, they have detailed featured story that delves into the personal, emotional, and physical challenges of weight loss and lifestyle changes. This is beautifully executed – both with design and writing – on this website.
Third, they have a testimonials page with informal, before and after videos made by their customers. These brief videos physically show customers, detail exactly how much weight they lost, and give a quick anecdote about how they’re feeling happier, healthier, and more active. The strong focus on not just the weight loss, but the emotional benefits that come from being healthier overall, make these videos really persuasive
You can’t do much better than this with website testimonial content. Yet this is website content. People realize that the business put this content their intentionally, and probably edited it to make their solution sound good.
To seal the deal, they needed off-site reviews.
The Marketing 360® Reputation Management Team Goes to Work
Our reputation management team decided to use email marketing to get more reviews for PS1000. The tactic starts with designing this email template:
With this email, the thumbs up links to the review platform (Top Rated Local, Google, Facebook) where they want to gain more reviews. The thumbs down opens a feedback form so people can provide direct comments back to the business. This is, of course, by design so that the business gains more positive online reviews.
And it works. They’ve gained positive reviews on all these platforms:
On Google Reviews:
Review growth (last month): 5 new verified reviews
Lifetime growth has taken us from 0 to 31 reviews
3 reviews were 5-star ratings 2 of them 4 stars!
Our average rating on Google increased to 4.6
On Facebook:
Review growth (last two weeks): 4 new verified reviews
We’ve grown Facebook reviews from 27 to 45 lifetime, all positive
Our average rating is 4.6 and our lifetime total reviews are now at 45
On Top Rated Local:
Review growth (last Month): 2 new verified reviews
Lifetime growth has taken us from 0 to 24 reviews
Our total reviews on the TRL is at 21, each of which are “Positive” and our average rating held strong at 4.5
This content comes together to tell a story of a quality product that improves people’s lives, which proves that the quote they have on their homepage is right:
“A good reputation is more valuable than money.” -Publilius Syrus
This is a historic quote from a venerable Latin writer. But today it should have an addendum:
“A good reputation is more valuable than money…but it doesn’t hurt your bottom line either.”
